My first pre-X series Minolta. This good looking XG1 arrived today, together with a Minolta Auto 200X flash and fitted with the very fine 45mm f/2 Rokkor. All this for the price of 15 litres petrol. The camera (plus flash and lens) looks almost like new. Apparently it was purchased in 1980 by the previous owner, but it certainly wasn't used extensively since.
Despite the fact that the XG1 was the 'Bruce Jenner approved' entry-level XG at the time, it can be used in manual mode or with aperture priority. It doesn't have LED's active when shooting manual, so that's not ideal. Aperture prio, imho, always is best and then LED's are active in the viewfinder.
The XG sold as many units in its first 15 months as the XD sold in its entire eight-year lifespan.
Overall build quality is wonderful. It feels a bit more 'tight' than the newer X-series. With 'clicking metal' instead of plastics.
