Minolta X-500 (I)

The Minolta X-500 followed the X-700 in 1983. Lacking the MPS, it gained various gimmicks that make this one the X-series to look for when you like to shoot in M, such as both chosen and advised shutterspeed visible in the viewfinder, plus an active lightmeter even when DOF is used. The X-500 also enabled the photographer to set a shutter speed slower than the sync speed through the use of the AE lock button.

The X-500 was only offered for a couple of years, so prices seem to go up slightly faster than for the X-700. This smart looking X-500 has the smallest of 50mm standard lenses, the 1:2. Still, a very good piece of MD glass. Maybe even sharper in corners than the 1:1.7.
