The last of 'the real ones'... (R)F-104G's in Italian service were less sophisticated than the newer F-104S models were, but the G's had the true and intense howling J-79 sound we just all love. RF-104G MM6529/3-43 served with 28 Gruppo when it visited Volkel in December 1992. It was accepted by the Italian air force on July 12th, 1963. It was retired on September 2nd, 1993. Its fuselage was last noted dumped at Istrana in 2008.
