Ananda Pahto - Kassapa Buddha

Bagan, Myanmar

The groundplan is cruciform, for the square temple chamber can be entered from all four sides through projecting porches. Four huge (10m)
standing Buddha images representing Gautama (facing west), Kakusandha (facing north), Konagamana facing east) and Kassapa (facing south) are
in the centre of the shrine.

The Kassapa Buddha is the twenty-fourth Buddha of the Pali tradition; and one of the seven Buddhas mentioned in Pali canons. Also, he is reckoned
as the third Buddha of the present aeon (Bhadda Kappa).
