There were only twelve Armenians in Singapore when the church was built and no more than one hundred at its subsequent peak. This photo is on the wall
inside the church and dates from 1917.
Among its more well-known members were the Catchick Moses, who co-founded the Straits Times newspaper, Sarkies Brothers, who established Raffles Hotel,
and Agnes Joaquim who discovered/bred - the Vanda Miss Joaquim - a hybrid orchid, named after her in 1893, which is now the Singapore's national flower.
If you want to know more about the history of Armenians in Singapore, Nadia Wright's book is the definitive resource.
