This most famous temple built in 1383 is 16 km Northwest of Chiang Mai. It is located near the summit of the 1675m high Doi
Suthep peak. It is the most important legacy of the Lanna Kingdom in Thailand. It is a 'must see' for any serious traveler to Thailand.
"Wat" means "temple/monastery" while "Phra" is a respectful title for royalty or revered monks. "Doi", means "mountain"
and "Suthep" was the name of a reclusive ascetic who followed his meditation on the mountain slopes.
