In 1982, John Laycock did the first repeat cross (between Vanda teres var. aurorea and Vanda hookerana var. alba), hoping that a white Joaquim would be obtained. The variety 'Josephine' is free-flowering
and has more of influence of Vanda teres in its shape. This flower was then named in 1983 after a grandniece of Agnes Joaquim.
