Scientific name: Streptopelia roseogrisea (Linnaeus, 1756).
Origin Africa: Widespread across the continent south of the Congo basin, north of there confined to the east ranging through East Africa north to Ethiopia, Somalia and southern Sudan. This is a widespread
and frequently abundant bird of bush, savannah, cultivation, forest edge and woodland. Other names: Cape Turtle Dove, Cape Ring-dove, Dark-eyed Ring-dove, Damara Dove.
The domesticated bird (Streptopelia risoria) descends from the African Ring Dove.
