After Maastricht, we drove north through The Netherlands through Eindhoven and Nijmegen, then on to Utrecht, where we spent a couple of days. Utrecht is a great place. Its canals are lined with cafes, and it's a beautiful city to explore on foot. The cathedral shown in some of these photos has a bell tower that isn't connected to the rest of the building. The photos show a scaffolding and trees where the nave ought to be. At first, I thought this might have been some remnant of bomb damage from World War II. In fact, the nave was destroyed by a tornado in 1674 and was never rebuilt. They didn't even remove the debris until 1850. The scaffolding is simply there to show the former size and shape of the nave and includes outlines where the windows used to be.
