Although Maastricht is a very modern city (and a college town), there is a surprising amount of its medieval fabric still intact. This includes a significant portion of the city's walls; the inner city wall was built in 1228, and the outer city wall was built in the 1500's (I think). The tourist information office in Maastricht (the VVV) has brochures that detail the remaining sections of it, and outline a self-guided walking tour of the remains. Dad and I set out on this self-guided tour one day.
