I love to skulk around old properties such as old abandoned farm sites.They have a very attractive quality to them and oh the stories they would tell.Please be careful though if you are like me and like wandering around these sites.Watch for rotten floorboards and especially be on the lookout for mouse droppings.Stay away from these areas due to the possibility of coming in contact with hantavirus...it's deadly.See link:

recently I stopped to look around at an old farmhouse to take pictures and got arrested for felony burglary- haven't been to court yet, hopefully it will be reduced to trespassing so beware when you are out there doing that!

I know what the "Naaaa...can not figure out what it is" photo...It is the business end of a Jamesway barn cleaner. The big box is the gear box, the bars with pins ( chain return)kept the horizontal chain moving back into the barn and the air plane looking blades kept the cow droppings leveled off as they dropped into the manure spreader. My grandpa had a barn cleaner installed after he had a heart attack scooping poop for 40 cows eveyday and it was a real labor saver! Next time you get close to a barn that has one take a closer look and you will see how simple the design truly is. Its just one continuous chain with scraper blades every 18 inches that pulls the poo along the gutter behind the cows, up onto a chute, out the door and into the spreader. Nosier than the dickens and every farmer wanted one after seeing them in action.
