I found a busy flock of Semipalmated Sandpipers at Gurnet's "Boat Hole". They were working the fresh wrack from the recently peaked high tide. There is quite a bit of variation in the plumages with some being quite brown and others very light gray. There was much feisty interaction between the birds making the flock seem much bigger than the 11 birds I counted.
The rest of this little gallery are shots of these Semis. Of interest to me was the frequent exaggerated posing that they did. Some of these pictures show what I am referring to. They tipped their back ends toward the skies and often charged one another. They frequently stopped foraging to pose and strut about - turkey-like. Whether this was territorial or courtship or what I don't know but if it was courtship, none appeared to get lucky!
