Whitehead Cabin After A Light Snow

This cabin has an interesting history. When Matilda Shields Gregory's husband left her and her small son, around 1895, her brothers built her a small rough-hewn log cabin for a place to stay. She then married Henry Whitehead in 1898, who built a fine cabin with finished sawn logs and a brick chimney (rare among the old mountain cabins) in front of the old, connecting them with a covered walkway. You can see the difference between old and newer in this view.

Fine photo of this old place and a very interesting commentary. The light snow dusting really defines the individual slats of the handmade shake roof. Good one, Dick. Vote.

Interesting, nice add on. I bet with a nice wood burning stove this can be cozy.

Beautiful and functional architecture. This really looks lovely with the winter snow and sun.
