Upon the Zayandeh Rud (river) in Esfahan laid over 20 ancient bridges which include some of the nicest architecture in Iran.

The "Si-o-Se Pol", meaning "Bridge of 33 Arches", lies just steps away from the hotel we lodged in.
Built during the rule of Shah Abbas the Great in 1632, Si-O-Se Pol is the longest bridge in Esfahan at 295m.
The scene is equally fascinating at morning break and at night.

Khaju Bridge is said to be the most beautiful bridge left behind from the Safavid period.
The present superstructure, with its handsome alcoves and exquisite frescoes and tile-work,
was built upon the orders of Shah Abbas I in around 1650.

These ancient bridges are not only of physical function but also social significance,
serving as gathering and meeting places for the people of Esfahan.
This together with their historical significance, aesthetic qualities and
architectural characteristics have made them architecturally unique masterpieces.
