Orthocone

Back in October I found my first fossilized orthocone (the photo is still on the first page of my recent additions gallery) and one month later I found this smaller orthocone at a different site. These are fossilized shells of ancient cephalopods and they are supposedly not uncommon, but earlier in the year I couldn't find any when I went out specifically looking for them at a known site. This find and my find last month were incidental. How often do we find sought after things when we are not looking!
