PA STATE RECORD FIRST SIGHTING

A first confirmed Pennsylvania record, the Western Grebe's breeding range extends from South-central Canada
to Northern New Mexico and east to Michigan.This individual was discovered along the Conodiguinet Creek
near Huston's Mill in Cumberland County by Barry and Jenni Horton on February 14, 2009.

With very little trouble, a fellow birder and myself relocated the bird on the morning of February 16th
at which time I took these photographs. On most every sighting the bird was accompanied by a
first year Red-necked Grebe.
