Ballet Class

Here are a few pictures I took at ballet class. Dancers take class every day of the week. Most of these dancers are in high school and have come to class right after school. See also https://pbase.com/rcalmes/hip_hop_fun because on thursdays, they take Hip Hop class before Ballet Class. Dancers begin by stretching, then they move to the Barre, and finally they will do sequences in the center of the floor. Class will last an hour or more and then there will be rehearsals for the next 2 hours.

i just wanted to say thanks for these wonderful photos you have really captured what ballet is about. it would be really interesting if you could tell us the stroy of how this shoot came about and how you managed to arrange it with reagrds to getting access to the dancers and etiquette ie how you took photos without being a distraction and if you could just shoot or if you had to keep your distance etc

As a dancer myself, i see these images and go "i know that well..." This is an amazing collection of work, i love the one of the grand jete, and that of the pain that the points give the feet when they rub. This is inspirational...

Stunning images, Richard. What can I say that hasn't already been said? Your ballet galleries have all been fabulous. This may well be my favorite so far. I love the B/W. It helps the viewer focus on the expressions and shapes, which you have captured so well. I think the pictures are so natural, that it seems the dancers don't even know the photographer is there. You seem to have established a wonderful working relationship with your subjects.

Sweet, sweet monochrome that reminds me of an old saying (I'll try to find/remember the author) "Beauty is harmony and grace is melody." Many of these resemble musical notes on staff paper and play so well through our sense of sight. g
