Light sucks... he claims... but what a terrific result. This is a beautiful edit of a beautiful shot. The exposure is great, the lighting is perfect and you have done it... again. ;¬)
You could lift the eyes by using an adjustment layer (LEVELS). Change the midtone so that the eyes reveal more detail. The entire image will turn awfully light but you will need to focus on only the eyes. The second step is to fill the layer with the background colour (this should be black- see the two squares at the bottom of the tool palette- a white square should overlap a black one). This will result in the entire image reverting back to what you see above. You can then use a fine soft brush (50-80% fuzzy and ca. 10 pixels) to 'paint in' the level adjustment that you made earlier. You do this only around the eyes to lift them. If this looks unnatural, you can change the opacity from 100% to whatever looks right. I hope that this helps.
