I am a figure skater and a ballerina an if your skates just don't feel right you have a difficult time. Good skates feel like you aren't even wearing them [: But unfortunately, unlike pointe shoes, the boots and blades usually cost around 1,500 so you can't exactly try to a new pair so easily!

It's not too bad if the ballet slippers don't feel right - it's just horrible if the pointe shoes don't feel right! I have never done figure skating but it's very essential to have well fitted pointe shoes. There's a lot that could go wrong about them (shank strength, box shape, width, length, etc.). You get blisters all over and it doesn't look nice then!

I've often wondered, if the ballet slippers don't feel right does it affect the dancing like the iceskaters say.
The feet are like a nerve center, I can see where it could affect them strongly.
Another lovely dancer.
Good shot!
