Among the more poorly-named dragonflies I can think of, I guess it was once called the "Swift River Cruiser," which seems better than the current common name. Nonetheless, a pretty common dragonfly of fast streams, rivers, and large lakes throughout the northern half of Wisconsin. It's fairly large with bold black and yellow coloration, metallic green eyes in adults, and a "velvety" appearance on the abdomen. A large yellow top spot on abdominal segment 7, just above a small club, stands out even in flight. As in the smaller, browner Stream Cruiser, this species has a yellow face stripe and single yellow thoracic side stripe.
