Cruisers (Family Macromiidae)

The cruisers are another family of dragonflies with few representatives in Wisconsin. As in the spiketails (Family Cordulegastridae), only 3 species occur here and one is very rare (Royal River Cruiser, Macromia taeniolata). All have a single yellow stripe on the face and a single yellow stripe on the sides of the thorax. Two species are fairly common in the northern half of the state and can be found primarily in early summer (June-early July).
