The house where the Blackert family moved while Evelyn was in third grade - is no longer there. The huge 3 story barn is barely standing. Evelyn remembers how tremendous that huge barn was for hide-and-seek games. She especially liked that this house was just up the road to the grade school, since before this move she had to hike a couple of miles over the hills, through the snow, to get to school.
These were the days when the women cooked huge noon meals for the men working the fields. Evelyn helped her mom with the spreads that would include 2-3 meats, home cooked bread and fresh churned butter, veggies, and her mom's famous sugar cookies and pies.
