These were taken with a "lowly" 3 megapixel camera. When stiched together images like this can easily be enlarged to a very nice size. For the Tucson are you hopefully saw these:

So as you can see the same can be done with film cameras (after scanning) or higher end digital cameras

What is the minimum camera resolution required to take pictures like these?

I'm interested in making panorama pictures of our mountains in Tucson, AZ.
