Bizarre Rainbow Spot

Simi, CA

* 10-8-06 *

The first time I saw one of these bizarre rainbow spots in the sky
was when we were driving along the mountains in Yosemite ~ I was
not able to capture it very well then, but this time I was determined!

The sun was setting just behind the hill on the left, out of view ~
I've enhanced the colour saturation to show the spot better.. so odd!

I believe it's called a sundog--and it usually means rain is coming. It's created just like a rainbow, except via ice crystals in the cirrus clouds which usually indicate a change in the weather... Excellent shot!

I think it's just a part of a circular rainbow. (Yeah, I know, they are all circular but these are high enough to see the whole circle)

Did you see any little grays? Vote.
