Our first stop on Thursday was Keys View, a viewpoint overlooking Coachella Valley and the surrounding mountains. There is significant haze and pollution in the valley (the wind patterns practically funnel in the smog from LA - we could see a distinct layer hovering over the valley on our drive back to LA). Despite a diminished view, we could make out some of the prominent features visible from Keys View: the Salton Sea, San Andreas Fault, San Gorgonoio and San Jacinto Peaks (the two tallest peaks in So. California).
