On our first night we visited Devil's Garden, which has a terrific collection of rock formations that were fun to explore and photograph in the late afternoon light. Hole in the Rock road itself is pretty desolate (compared to the canyons accessed by the side roads), but we did catch a few interesting sights such as some badgers and a cowboy herding cattle. Before we set out on Hole in the Rock road, we were able to fit in a short hike to Upper Calf Creek Falls, which was a welcome spot after a hot hike in the afternoon sun.
