The Reichstag

The Reichstag was built in the late 19th century and housed the parliaments of Prussia and of the German Weimar Republic. The building was
destroyed once by fire in 1933 and again by bombing during World War II (1939-1945). After German reunification in 1990, the
building was renovated to accommodate the the German parliament, the Bundestag.

During the renovation, a large glass dome was added to the top of the structure, providing an unobstructed view of the surrounding landscape.
The remodeled building opened in 1999. The inscription above the pillars, "Dem Deutschen Volke", means "To the German People".
