According to Stan Tekiela, author of Mammals of Michigan Field Guide, “Although it my be small,
the red squirrel has a very big attitude and is well known for chasing away the larger eastern
gray squirrel or any other small mammal. However, the success of the red squirrel over the
gray is a function of the food resources, not its feistiness.”
