The southern pochard is common and is scattered across southern Africa. It is also found in South America. The male is distinguished
by a bright red eye. The southern pochard is monogamous unless its mate dies. In the event of a partner dying it will seek out a
new mate. The pochard may nest in aardvark burrows.
