Ruddy ducks are native to the Americas and like white-headed ducks are a member of the stifftail family. The adult male has a rust-red body,
a blue bill, and a white face with a black cap. It is similar in appearance to the white-headed duck. However, it is smaller with
brighter chestnut plumage, and the male has a more extensive black cap and dark hindneck.
