This area is in the process of being redeveloped with the old docks and buildings removed (or converted) to make way for retail
parks, a new marina, apartments and offices. Here you can see the pedestrian Millennium Bridge lowered across the river to allow pedestrians to cross.
When shipping needs to access the river, the bridge can be closed to pedestrians and swung out of the way.
While we were taking photos in this area, a local very kindly came up to us and warned us that the bridge was about to be closed
to pedestrians! Thanks to his warning we were able to avoid being stranded for a couple of hours on the 'wrong' side of the river,
and not only that but we had ring-side seats to watch the swing mechanism in action. If you are reading this, thank you!
