St Michael-le-Belfry Church - tower and gargoyle detail

The tower of York Minster can be seen looming behind. The church was constructed 1525-1536 for the wealthy merchants and craftspeople of the city.
The gargoyles were designed to drain rainwater away from the roof and masonry in the era before drainpipes. :-)

Very dramatic! Love the heavy contrast!
