Christmas Day, West Front, York Minster

Christmas has been celebrated every year in a church at this site since 627 - that's almost 1400 years.
It's not often that the great West doors of the Minster are fully opened to reveal the interior of the Cathedral, but it is a beautiful sight
when they are. A photo does not do justice to it, but you can see the pinprick of light inside, which is the Christmas candle burning at the east end of the nave.
Some of the Minster clergy in their gold Christmas robes can be seen on the steps, and you can just make out the red and gold mitre of Archbishop Sentamu right in the centre of the crowd!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Just calculated the time...at this point I was going to bed. It had been a great Christmas Day and the family helped with the clean up and the packing of the car ready for our 4am departure on Boxing Day...I went off with a smile on my face knowing what you guys were going to do on the day.....so happy to see this marvelous capture. York Minster will always be special to me because of you and Harrie, Ev xx
