Christmas has been celebrated every year in a church at this site since 627 - that's almost 1400 years.
It's not often that the great West doors of the Minster are fully opened to reveal the interior of the Cathedral, but it is a beautiful sight
when they are. A photo does not do justice to it, but you can see the pinprick of light inside, which is the Christmas candle burning at the east end of the nave.
Some of the Minster clergy in their gold Christmas robes can be seen on the steps, and you can just make out the red and gold mitre of Archbishop Sentamu right in the centre of the crowd!
