Lysimachia asperulaefolia leaves

Rough-leaved loosestrife

I managed to find a few plants I was looking for. This is the stem and leaves of rough-leaved
loosestrife or Lysimachia asperfulaefolia, a federally endangered plant found only in the
ecotones between pine savannas and wet shrubby pocosins. IDing this species is easy because of
the distinctive whorl of pointed leaves in 3's or 4's up the stem. I didn't find any
blooming plants. About the time I snapped this photo thunder clapped loudly so I packed up and headed back to the car. Skip has a good shot of the flowers here: http://www.pbase.com/image/112589455
