NGC2264 - Cone Nebula and Christmas Tree Cluster

Cone Nebula and Christmas Tree Cluster

Object: NGC 2264
Type: Open cluster with nebulosity
Constellation: Monoceros (Mon)
Location: RA: 06h 41m 06.0s Dec: +09°53'00"
Brightness: 3.9
Size:

A very interesting object - huge complex of emission nebulae, and part of even larger complex of faint nebulosity in constellation Monoceros, containing other favorite objects (e.g. Rosette) and linked to dust clouds and nebulae in Orion.

The cone is located on the tip of Christmas Tree - cluster forming distinctive tree shape. Upside down on this picture. The highly mottled area near cone is "Fox Four" reflection nebula. Nearby located is a fan-shaped Hubble variable nebula.
