The base station of cable car was located maybe 1km from our hotel, so it was no brainer that we should go up the Teide Volcano. In early afternoon, there were no major crowds or queues so we quickly boarded the car and were driven some 1,5km up to the volcano top.

For me this was my first visit at such high altitude (almost 4km). The air was "think". Fortunately, after already leaving for few days on altitude of over 2300m, we were much better prepared than most of the other tourists and could easily venture around the summit.

Unfortunately, the path to the volcano pit and around the top were closed as the volcano seemed to be more awake than usual, so we went onto a route towards "Pico Viejo" - another, slightly smaller volcano pit to the west. On our way we have seen a number of active vents and areas covered with crystallized sulphur.

We also took images of the entire island from above, including our hotel, with it's backyard, where we could even discern little white dots of our mounts ;-)

After driving back, we celebrated the success of "volcano expedition" with a glass of beer.
