One sunny day (well all of them were sunny actually) we decided to try to enter the Izana Observatory. On our way to Izana Pass we have seen larger, desert-like deposits of sand - quite unusual among ever-present rough terrain covered with lava rocks and stones. The scenery closely ressambled images from Mars, obtained by Spirit and Odyssey rovers. We joked that maybe all these transmissions come from Tenerife and we could stumble upon the rovers behind some rocks ;-)
On the east side of island we could see vast cloud deck, and far away coasts of Africa some 200km away. It was nice to realize that on any lower mountain we could be completely clouded out.
Unfortunately, our visit was not announced in advance and we were not admitted to the observatory. Instead, we visited some other unusual rock formations before driving back.
