What a Mess!

Today I got a chance to take a really nice walk along the Lake Ontario shoreline in an area I had never walked before. However these are Zebra Mussel shells that have washed up on the beach and shoreline. All you could hear as you walked was "crunch crunch crunch". They are an invasive species that was first found in the Great Lakes in 1988 (probably brought in with ballast water of ocean-going ships by way of the Saint Lawrence Seaway).

Yuk. There are too many invasive species in the great lakes.

If theses are the dead - just think of the millions more still living; and competing; in the waters.

Wow...thousands of them...something we definitely don't see in Montana! :) I can't imagine that it wouldn't be tough walking.

At first I thought it was sunflower seed shells on the ground below a bird feeder - great shot of something we don't see up this way.

Maybe Capt Crunch dumped them! :-) Nice eye Patti!
