Topaz Lake is a large, artificial reservoir with a surface area of over 2,400 hectares. It was formed in the early 1920s by the construction of a dam on the West Walker River to supply water to surrounding farmlands.
Across the lake lie the golden-brown desert hills of Douglas County in the state of Nevada.
