The forecast was for clear skies. It rained earlier in the day, but as the afternoon progressed more and more clouds showed forming behind a front heading this way, but late in the afternoon the clouds began to evaporate and stayed low to the horizon. But there were problems with my main tracking mount again, not keeping up and the north/south drive failed. It ran, but the clutch did not engage and it did not move, so before every shot I took I had to forceable adjust it. I am certain that many if not all of these shots will be trailed because of this. I did figure out what the mount's problem was. The altitude control was not engaging the worm. You would think it was because the two gears were not close enough together, but the opposite was true, they were not separated enough. There is an adjustment, but it is very touchy, so I attempted to adjust it, but it may still not work that well, we will see. I did however attempted to use the Star Adventurer for the 600mm, and it did seem to work well for the limited run I did with it.
I shot with the Canon D5Sr and 600mm lens, also my Nikon D300 with a 80 to 300mm lens (with various zoom adjustments) on a tracking Star Adventurer 2i, and a Canon 70D on a tripod taking wide field images of the sky. Lets see what we got!
