Auschwitz & Birkenau

ANATOMY OF GENOCIDE

"Auschwitz" is the German name the Nazis gave to the little town of Oswiecim, Poland.
At the beginning World War II Auschwitz and the nearby Birkenau became the location of largest concentration and extermination camps the world has ever known.
A systematic murdering of thousands of people of specific races (not just Jews) and other nations' members happened there,
with atrocities the world has never seen. The word Genocide was introduced there for the first time in the human history .
2,900,000 (two million, nine hundred thousand) Jews were murdered by the Germans in Poland alone.
No words can really convey the concept of a human tragedy of such large scale in an effort to describe the German atrocities during World War II.
Birkenau Concentration camp is shown in the second part of this gallery.
