Levitated Mass

Levitated Mass is artist Michael Heizer’s gigantic installation at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). It consists of a 340-ton granite boulder straddling over a 456 feet long concrete trench. It allows visitors to descend the trench and view the boulder from below.

During its move from a quarry in Riverside County to LACMA over 11 nights in March 2012, it created quite a sensation in SoCal as large crowds turned out at every stop to see the "Big Rock".
