I did a 7-day motorcycle adventure mostly in S. Utah to catch the Oct 14, 2023 annular solar eclipse. Although I did have a drone, three GoPro cameras, an Insta360 camera, and a Lumix point & shoot camera on the trip, I did not take any of my DSLR gear because of extra weight and limited storage space. I planned on using the P&S to shoot through some solar film and hoped to get the "ring of fire". While not the most skilled shots of the eclipse, I was happy with what I got given what I was working with. The video is the first of many that I plan on posting to YouTube and is a compilation of some of the beautiful scenery I rode through during the trip. The video is best viewed in HD.

I finished up the short compilation video from my 5-day solo trip to Utah last month.

I saw some great scenery, rode some great roads, and was perfectly content being

socially distant from most of the rest of the world. The video moves pretty fast through

some of the scenes because I was having difficulty deciding which bits to discard in

order to keep the video short. The video is best viewed in HD.

Stopped to take in the view of the Colorado River basin at the Hite Overlook. Fantastic country.

I took another motorcycle trip to Utah, this time a 5-day solo motorcycle trip covering 1,700 miles.

It was good to get out on the road and away from all the COVID-19 craziness. No better way to practice

social distancing than on a motorcycle. This image is from Red Canyon, on Utah Rt. 12 on the way over to

Bryce Canyon from Kanab, UT. It was a little chilly but heated gear made that much better, and seeing

snow in the red rock country was wonderful. Video is best viewed in HD.

I had a couple of opportunities to ride down Moki Dugway (Utah Rt. 261) on my recent motorcycle trip to Utah.

This section of the road can be a bit terrifying but the breathtaking views are ample reward for the effort.

I rode the Moto Guzzi V85TT through Valley of the Gods and took in some amazing views.

A few stops during the route around the loop for some photos, but mostly just riding. This

image is a frame grab from the forward-facing GoPro camera, tweaked in Photoshop.

Another piece of video from my 4 day rental of a BMW R1200RT touring motorcycle,

doing a solo 1,550 mile round trip from Tucson to Death Valley and parts in-between.

The shot above is a frame grab from the video. Shooting at 1080p, 60fps allows for some

halfway decent stills. And it's much safer than trying to shoot a still while riding. ;-)

I rented a BMW R1200RT touring motorcycle for 4 days and took a solo trip up to Lake Mead National Recreation Area and beyond to Death Valley.

Fantastic motorcycle and some great scenery along the way. I planned ahead and brought along two GoPro video cameras to help

document the trip. This video is from a portion of the trip through Valley of Fire State Park, northeast of Las Vegas.

1,550 mile round trip and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

The still image is a frame grab from the 01:00 minute mark in the video. Shooting at 1080p allows for some decent frame grabs.

I wasn't totally thrilled to have these cranes in the skyline because of how they interrupt the normal

skyline of the various monuments on the National Mall. I had just photographed a sunrise at the

Reflecting Pool and was walking back to a Metro station when I discovered that all 4 cranes were

busily carrying on with different tasks. Below is a very short video that I made from a series of time

lapse images covering a total of 14 minutes of real time. The video contains a bit more than that time

period because I reversed some of the sequence towards the end to make for a slightly longer video.

Had I known it was going to turn out so well I would have stayed longer to get more of a sequence.

Here is a short slide show of a storm cell that moved through the southern

edge of Tucson, as photographed from my home. The slide show covers about

1/2 hour of activity condensed into less than two minutes.
