I went to 109 and 82 and lived in a different area of The Bronx, but I walked Featherbed Lane every Sunday because my sisters and I taught religious school at the little church on the Lane and then went to the small candy store/lucheonette after. I had to look up how this street got it's name for a class assignment. It stated that feathers were placed at the bottom of carriages (horse and buggy) so the passangers didn't bang their feet as the carriage went of the cobblestones and the curve. Who knows?

I lived on University Ave 171st I remember those steps and I remember the rides that used to drive around, one time this guy let us ride and spun us as fast as it would go-best quarter I ever spent! I lived there from '62-'68. I went to 109.

Those steps were a killer. We use to take the Rock Salt out of the bin and put it in our pockets. It was the greatest place to grow up as a kid; Candy stores. rides that came around the block. Hi Ly", The Whip....It was a ball.
