Genealogy / MANN

I've been a genealogist for almost twenty years now. Below you'll find some pictures of my MANN line. I can trace this line back to my 14nth great paternal grandfather, John Mann, born in Broad Oakes, County Kent, England, ca 1487. This line came to the Colonies, in Massachusetts, in the early 1630's with my 9nth great paternal grandfather, Richard Mann. My Mann's migrated from there to Elizabethtown New Jersey ca 1700 where they stayed until ca 1785. Around then they traveled to Greene County Pennsylvania. By 1820 they were in Butler & Darke Counties, Ohio. By 1840, they were in Randolph County Indiana, where they stayed until after the War of the Rebellion. My own line left Indiana for the plains of Nebraska in 1875, where they stayed another 70 years. By 1945 they'd moved all the way to the shores of the Pacific. They traveled 3000 miles in 300 years; about 10 miles a year. You'll see headstone pictures, as well as scanned photographs of some of my relatives that have since died. I try & shy away from using pictures of living folks without their permission, for obvious reasons. To view a picture in its original size, merely click on the picture as shown.

This is an interesting photograph. These stones are hard to get. The lettering is the same color as the stone surrounding it. Therefore, you have to spray the whole stone with shaving cream, then scrape off the excess & shoot it. The shaving cream doesn't harm the stone in any way, wears off quickly, & provides you with a clear photograph. The trick is to wipe away the excess shaving cream so that it doesn't cloud up the rest of the stone. Look closely & you can see there's still soem shaving cream left on the stone.
