Mister Simpson just showed up, emaciated, on August 25, 2011. He stuck around in the front yard, so I started feeding him and, of course, he adopted us.
He was very skittish at first, hissing whenever I was around, and making it obvious that all he wanted was the food. After a couple of days he allowed me to approach and pet him, but not pick him up.
I noticed that he was limping, and then got a good enough look to see that his front left looked horribly broken. Long story short, it's not broken, he's got such severe arthritis that his elbow is fused and he's stretched the ligaments in his hock to accommodate. He hobbles a bit, but other than that it doesn't seem to really bother him.
Once I took him to the vet, got him de-fleaed and all fixed up, I couldn't kick him out again, so he came inside to live on September 6th. Now that he's inside, he's very affectionate and friendly - but whenever he goes outside, he's skittish again.
The name "Mister Simpson" is in reference to Joe Simpson, and the fact that the cat is white as snow with one glacier-ice blue eye (yes, I do realize Joe's injured leg was his right and the cat's is his left).
