DSCN_84014 (D2H 300/4 AFS TC20E II)

D2h + 300/4 AFS + TC20E II - Closeup showing less than optimum mating between plate and clamp- to say the least. Compare this to the images without a TC. Adding a longer plate hanging off the back of the lens foot is not the answer because that would conflict with the body when used without a TC.

One solution, for those that have a problem with this, is to get a Wimberly plate with long screw slots, allowing you to change the alilgnment of the clamp to the foot depending TC's in use (or not used). This would be a hassle, of course, when trying to do a quick TC configuration change. Wildlife never waits for us to catch up.
