VARTM was used to make these tools. The lower is the newest
with carbon fiber over structural foam. The pick attachment
is waterjet cut aluminum and extends about 3 inches into the carbon.
it's held in place by 2 pieces of carbon tube. These tools have more
clearance than the last generation as well as a more ergonomic handle.
They're not pretty as the infusion medium imprinted on the laminate,
but they are very strong.
I'm going to try and streamline the process over the summer to see if I
can produce more of these under tighter tolerances. I am thinking about
employing resin transfer molding (RTM) for this.
