GET AWAY FROM THE MAIN HIGHWAYS !!!!
One of the oldest routes in Louisiana, the Old Spanish Trail. LA highway 182 was at one time
US 90 crossing from Mississippi to Texas following the OST route.
Progress moved US 90 away from the many small towns and historic homes, and it is now a 4 lane
highway, in the planning stages to become part of the interstate system.
Slowly these towns have faded, Raceland, Houma, Gibson, Amelia, Morgan City, Berwick, Bayou Vista,
Patterson, Verdunville, Centerville, Garden City, Franklin, Baldwin, Jeanerette, New Iberia, Cade,
Broussard, and Lafayette. The larger cities have grown out to meet US 90.
The highway passes through the sugar cane belt of Louisiana. During the fall, travel along LA 182 can be hazardous because of tractors pulling cane carts on the 2 lane road.
Yhis photo was taken along LA 182 in the historic district of Franklin Louisiana.
