The King's Palace up the top of the hill/mountain, Doi Sutheo, west of Chiang Mai. The pronunciation is somewhat akin to BooPing, although I'm sure I will be corrected by some knowledgeable person. There are various spellings I've seen, and I think for English purposes, I'll stick with mine, with an /h/ sound after the /p/ so that the lighter /p/ sound is used, rather than the more voiced /b/ sound. I prefer a 'B' at the beginning, although strictly speaking I think the word means 'mountain, which is, I think Phu. The Ping part is the name of the river which runs through Chiang Mai. Anyway, the palace complex is also somewhat of a botanical garden. People who go without sufficient covering on arms and legs are loaned a long skirt (phasinh) for women and baggy pants like fishermen's pants for men, so that they are respectfully dressed within the King's domain. Half-way up (or down) is Wat Doi Suthep, which is featured in another gallery.
